PR No. 82/2025–2026

Lawngtlai, March 11, 2026: An Awareness Programme on Fire Prevention organized by the District Level Committee on Fire Prevention, Lawngtlai, was held today at 10:00 AM at the BDO Hall, Sangau.

The programme was graced by Pu HC Lalengkima, Executive Member (i/c EF&CC, etc.), LADC, as the Chief Guest. The Deputy Commissioner of Lawngtlai District, Pu Donny Lalruatsanga, also attended the programme.

In his address, Chief Guest Pu HC Lalengkima appreciated the initiatives taken by the District Level Committee of Lawngtlai and emphasized the importance of exercising caution against forest fires, noting the severe damage caused by such incidents.

He stated that the Government takes the issue of forest fires very seriously and stressed that the people of the state must be even more vigilant in protecting the environment. “For the sake of future generations, we must ensure that we leave behind a healthy and well-preserved forest,” he said.

He further expressed concern over the recurring forest fires affecting Phawngpui Peak, Mizoram’s highest mountain, and urged nearby villages to take greater responsibility in preventing such incidents this year. He also emphasized that forest conservation should not be left solely to the Forest Department; rather, the public must collectively work together not only to avoid causing forest fires but also to actively prevent them.

Deputy Commissioner Pu Donny Lalruatsanga stated that Lawngtlai District recorded one of the highest incidences of forest fires last year and expressed his determination to bring improvement this year. He warned that strict action would be taken against those responsible for causing forest fires and that government orders related to fire prevention would be strictly enforced. He also called upon the public to cooperate in preventing such incidents.

The Deputy Commissioner further highlighted that a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for monitoring the entry and exit of foreigners is currently being jointly prepared with Siaha District and will be implemented soon. He also announced that a “Drugs Free District” project will be launched in Lawngtlai District starting from April as part of the district’s intensified campaign against drug abuse.

The programme was chaired by Pu K. Lalromawia, DCCF (LADC). Pu Marcellas Hunlawmawma, DCF, delivered a PowerPoint presentation, and the programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Pu Thomas Maratha Hlychho, BDO Sangau.
