PR No. 71/2026–2027
LAWNGTLAI, June 9, 2026: A review and consultation meeting on the “CEM Cleanliness Competition 2026 Action Plan”, initiated by the Sanitation & Waste Management Department of the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC), was held today at the CEM Conference Room with youth leaders representing various church pastorates within Lawngtlai Town.
The meeting was chaired by Pu J.B. Vanhoy, Executive Member in charge of Sanitation. Participants also heard important addresses from Pu C. Lalsawmzuala, Chief Executive Member (CEM), LADC, and Pu K. Lalthanzara, Executive Secretary.
In his address, Pu C. Lalsawmzuala emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining cleanliness. He stated that success comes to those who are willing to take a stand and accept challenges, adding that progress can only begin when individuals are prepared to take the first step toward positive change and cleanliness.
The Action Plan was formulated under the guidance of the Clean Lawngtlai Committee, constituted by the LADC Executive Committee on April 23, 2026. The initiative aims to improve Lawngtlai’s performance in the Mizoram Cleanliness Competition (MCC) following the district’s ranking of 8th place in MCC 2025, where it secured 1,686 marks out of a total of 4,500.
Key Components of the Action Plan 2026
* Source Segregation of Waste:
Households, offices, shops, and educational institutions will be encouraged to separate wet and dry waste at the source.
* Drain Management:
The disposal of waste into roadside drains will be strictly prohibited. Measures will also be taken to prevent encroachment on storm-water drains and natural streams.
* Environmental Protection:
The indiscriminate disposal of sewage, wastewater, and other pollutants into public spaces will be prohibited. Dumping of soil, debris, and construction waste near water sources will also be strictly banned.
* Elimination of Spitting and Tobacco Stains:
Efforts will be intensified to remove “red spots” caused by the spitting of tobacco and betel nut products and to discourage such practices in public areas.
* Schools and Public Toilets:
All schools will be encouraged to install separate bins for wet and dry waste, while public toilets will be maintained to ensure proper hygiene and cleanliness.
* Single-Use Plastic (SUP) Ban:
Awareness campaigns on the prohibition of single-use plastics will be strengthened. Violators will be subject to penalties, and the “Carry Your Own Bag” campaign will be actively promoted.
* Digital Campaign and Public Feedback:
Awareness and educational campaigns will be conducted through WhatsApp and Instagram. Feedback from the public will be collected through community volunteers, youth organizations, field activities, and digital platforms.
The LADC CEM Cleanliness Competition 2026 will be conducted as a cleanliness competition among youth organizations of various church pastorates within Lawngtlai Town. The prize distribution is scheduled to be held in January 2027.
The meeting witnessed enthusiastic participation from representatives of various church youth organizations across Lawngtlai Town.
