PR. NO. 127/2026–2027
Lawngtlai, September 29, 2026: Pu C. Lalmuanthanga, Chairman of the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC), graced the inauguration ceremony of the Lawngtlai District Higher Secondary School Games 2026 as the Guest of Honour. The event was held today at Central YLA Playground. The games will be conducted from September 29 to October 1, 2026.
In his address, Pu C. Lalmuanthanga expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the leaders of the District Level Secondary School Working Committee for inviting him as the Chief Guest of the event. He said that he was impressed by the discipline, conduct and enthusiasm displayed by the students of Lawngtlai.
He acknowledged that students in Lawngtlai face greater challenges than those in Aizawl, including a lack of proper playgrounds and adequate sports equipment. However, he praised their enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to sports, stating that these qualities reflect the true spirit of the people of Lawngtlai, who continue to strive forward despite difficulties.
He also disagreed with the common perception that sports adversely affect academic performance. He pointed out that many successful Mizo sportspersons have excelled in sports, supported their families and brought recognition and honour to the state.
Continuing his address, Pu C. Lalmuanthanga said that people from the Lai region could also represent India and win gold medals in boxing, football, judo and other sporting disciplines. He emphasised that students who excel academically could also achieve success in sports. He encouraged students to study diligently while making time for football, running and other physical activities instead of spending excessive time on mobile phones.
He cautioned that excessive mobile phone use was negatively affecting the lives of the younger generation, particularly students. He also urged them to stay away from intoxicating substances, take up sports enthusiastically, wake up early and maintain physical fitness. He stressed that a healthy body contributes to a healthy mind and that poor health can hinder academic progress.
Addressing the students who had come from Lawngtlai, Sangau, Chawngte, Bungtlang and Bualpui 'NG', he reminded them that they might belong to different schools and communities and may have different skin colours. They may also belong to different ethnic groups, including Lai, Chakma, Bawm and Pang. However, he emphasised that on the playground, they were all equal as players.
Pu C. Lalmuanthanga urged the participants to compete wholeheartedly without quarrelling or exchanging harsh words. He encouraged them to help one another whenever a fellow player fell, respect the decisions of referees and uphold unity throughout the competition. He noted that although only one team would emerge as the champion, every participant should recognise that the entire Lawngtlai District could be considered a champion through unity and sportsmanship.
He further stated that sports promote good health, unity and good character. He encouraged students not to lose heart if they were not strong enough today, as they could become stronger tomorrow. He emphasised that the most important thing was to participate fairly and honestly.
After extending his best wishes to all participants for a successful competition, Pu C. Lalmuanthanga formally inaugurated the Lawngtlai District Higher Secondary School Games 2026.
He was accompanied by Pu J. Lalrawngbawla, Adviser to the CEM; Pu Premo Kanti, Deputy Chief Whip, LADC; and officials from the District Council Secretariat (DCS).
