Lawngtlai, March 26, 2025: Today, the Lai Autonomous District Council convened a session to appoint a new Chairman, where Mr. T. Zakunga, MDC 7-Vawmbuk Constituency was elected as the new Chairman of the Lai Autonomous District Council.

The session was held under the Chairmanship of Pi C. Biakthansangi, the Protem Chairman on March 26, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. in the LADC Session Hall.

Mr. V. Hmuaka, Chairman of LADC, and Mr. H. Lalmuansanga, Deputy Chairman of LADC, submitted their resignations on March 19, 2025. As a result, there were no longer a Chairman or Deputy Chairman in LADC. Following this, the Governor of Mizoram appointed Mrs. C. Biakthansangi as the Protem Chairman of the LADC. At 10:00 a.m, on March 25, 2025, the Deputy Commissioner Lawngtlai officiated the oath taking ceremony at his office chamber.

During the session led by Protem Chairman Pi C. Biakthansangi, they proceeded with the nomination process. It was notified to the members that T. Zakunga was the only candidate filing for nomination hence left uncontested.  The position of Chairman for Pu T. Zakunga was then proposed by Mr. LR. Dingliana Chinzah, with Mr. BN. Thangpuia as the seconder.

Mr. V. Zirsanga, CEM of LADC, and MDC Mr. C. Lalmuanthanga guided the newly appointed Chairman to his seat and then took office as the new Chairman under LADC. He then delivers a speech thanking God and their leaders for this huge responsibility that befell him. He shared his thoughts, emphasizing that he would responsibly lead the House and ensure its development. He expressed that the council is committed to preserving the safety and well-being of the community, emphasizing the need for cooperation among members to work toward the common goal of serving their people effectively.

Mr. V. Zirsanga, CEM of LADC, further expressed satisfaction with the new Chairman Mr. T. Zakunga, highlighting that the newly elected Chairman has held may important posts under LADC such as CEM, Dy Chairman and Executive Member. He reassured that the council would work diligently to address community issues and improve the LADC’s overall condition. He also thanked the population under his constituency for electing him as MDC.

Mr. C. Lalmuangthanga, MDC, echoed that the newly appointed Chairmanis capable and reliable. He also requested the newly formed Government to work diligently with the previous one and that they are ready to support the council's initiatives and govern effectively, contributing to the progress of the Lai Autonomous District.

Mr. C. Lalsawmzuala, MDC, also congratulated the new Chairman and added his remarks on the importance of cooperation and collaboration among members during this session to ensure unified efforts and shared accomplishments. He is also hopeful for a peaceful working environment for everyone.

Chairman Mr. T. Zakunga concluded that he appreciates the trust bestowed upon him and is committed to leading the council towards fruitful developments while ensuring the voices of the people are heard. He then ended the session infinitely.
