Lawngtlai, April 15, 2025: Today, Mr. T. Lalengmuana, Executive Member i/c Sanitation Department called the Village Councils within Lawngtlai town for a meeting to discuss various matters related to cleanliness. He stated that the rainfall in the morning of April 15, 2025 has resulted in the debris accumulated in the Side Drains to block drainage channels and that in some areas within the town, it resulted in landslides although not severe. He stated the need to discuss on the way-forward to clean these areas.

Mr. T. Lalengmuana, during his speech, noted that it is a blessing to receive rainwater in Lawngtlai town, however, during their visit to some localities, he noticed that side drains have accumulated wastes/debris which resulted in blockage as well as presence of wastes on the side of the roads etc. and landslides due to these wastes. This has deeply impacted the cleanliness and sanitation of the town, not to mention the impact it could have on the health of the people. Thus, he implored the VCs and Sanitation Department, LADC to come-up with a solution to clean these affected areas. Furthermore, he stated that today is the day to discuss these plans.

Reports from various VCs were listened to and reviewed. He, then pointed out that there could be complications on collection and disposal of these wastes, although the Sanitation Department vehicles will be used. Hence, due to shortage of vehicles, it was decided that the localities will take turns in cleaning their areas.

Additionally, various discussions were held to uphold and promote cleanliness and sanitation in Lawngtlai town.

This meeting was also attended by Mr. C. Lalhmunsiama, Senior Sanitation Officer, LADC.
