PR No. 133/2026–2027

Lawngtlai, October 15, 2026: Today, Executive Member of the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC), Pu H.C. Lalengkima, who is in charge of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department, visited the sites of trees planted during Green LADC Day and roadside plantation areas along the Kawlchaw road to inspect their condition and encourage the staff responsible for maintaining them.

During his visit, Pu H.C. Lalengkima inspected the trees planted on June 5, 2026, to mark Green LADC Day. He noted that the Forest Department had also planted additional trees at the sites.

He emphasised that regularly monitoring and caring for the planted trees was essential. He stated that the success of the initiative should not be measured merely by the number of trees planted; rather, proper care must be taken to ensure that the trees survive and grow to maturity.

He also stressed the need to repair damaged protective fencing and keep the areas around the trees clean to protect them from forest fires.

Pu H.C. Lalengkima urged Forest Department staff to continue their efforts with dedication and appealed to members of the public who travel along the roads to help protect the planted trees.

He particularly reminded LADC employees that safeguarding the trees was also their responsibility. He called upon everyone to take ownership of the initiative and continue looking after the plantations. He further expressed his expectation that the protective fencing around each planted tree should be properly maintained and the surrounding areas kept clean whenever necessary.

During the inspection, he was accompanied by Pu K. Lalromawia, Divisional Chief Conservator of Forests (DCCF), and Pu H. Larchhuakmawia, Range Officer (RO).

The trees were found to be generally in healthy condition. Arrangements were also made to follow up on sites where protective fencing needed repairs and where cleaning was still required.
